KittiesMama is family vlog channel, fun by their parents and starring Emma and her two brothers. We’ve known this family for several years, and we LOVE them! {Anytime we find another family who dedicates a great deal of time to create videos for YouTube, it is easy to see that we have a lot in common. They become more than just friends to us.}
Today, we are going to teach you how to create the hair from Sirena
Von Boo’s character from Monster High. We felt that this was the perfect
collaboration to film together, because I am not an expert in character
makeup and Sirena Von Boo has a very complicated hairstyle.
Kamri and Emma had fun playing with the makeup and learning this
hairstyle. They also had lots of looks from passers by as we went out to
take photos! Paisley, of course, had fun playing with the doll! The purpleish-blue wig is from Light In The Box. It is important to remember that you are dealing with a wig here. This is not real hair, and it will not style like real hair. As such, just know that the hairstyle will not look perfect and there is nothing wrong with that.
Items Needed: Blue/Purple long-haired wig {LightInTheBox.com}, brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, 4 small clear hair elastics, 1 purple ponytail holder, extra-hold hairspray, blow dryer.
Time Requirement: 20 minutes
Skill Level: Medium-Hard
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Begin by parting a long-haired purple/blue wig into the needed styling sections {you will need a front section to create the sculpted swoop bangs, a back section to create the side ponytail, two small front-side sections to pull up into the top ponytail, and a small middle-right side section to create the three rope twists}…
- Next, pick up the two front-side sections of hair and the right sections of hair, and combine them up at the top of the crown, to create a small top ponytail}…
- Now go back to the middle-right section, that you left down for twists, and create three rope twists {you want these to be rope twists so that they stay tight}, securing them each with a clear elastic}…
- Gather the remaining hair in the back and pull it slightly off center into a left side ponytail, securing it with a light purple ponytail holder…
- Now, fluff both ponytails to add fullness and texture…
- Next, go to the front bang section and add volume by teasing the hair with a rat-tail comb…
- Gather all the strands together, and lift the hair upwards spraying an extra strong-hold hairspray onto the hair…
- Gently use a hair dryer to dry the hair spray, allowing the hair to stand straight up {feel free to repeat this step as many times as you like to ensure the hair stands up to your liking}…
- Using your fingers, curl the ends of the bangs towards the left side of the head, spraying and drying as needed, to sculpt the hair as seen on Serena Von Boo {you are hoping to create a fun pin curl-type effect, however it all depends on the bang length}…
- Once you have everything in place, you are done!
